We love living by the beach and everything that comes with it! Beachbums was created as a place for fellow travelers to call home, bringing together those who share a passion for sun, sand, and surf.

There’s nothing quite like a day at the beach—waking up to the sound of waves, grabbing a fresh coconut to sip on, and letting the day unfold naturally. Whether you're lounging under the sun with a good book, playing beach volleyball with new friends, or simply enjoying the breeze while you relax, beach life offers the perfect mix of fun and relaxation. It's a space to unwind, connect, and soak in the simple joys of living by the ocean
Rooftop Sunsets
One of our favorite spots in the house is the rooftop, where you can watch the sun slowly set over the palms, casting a golden glow across the sky. From up here, the views stretch along the stunning south coast, creating the perfect backdrop for a peaceful evening. Whether you're enjoying the moment solo or with others, rooftop sunsets at our place offer a magical end to each day
Daily Surfs
The south coast of Sri Lanka is a surfer's paradise, offering a variety of waves to suit all levels. From mellow reef breaks perfect for beginners to punchy beach breaks, there's always something to ride. One of our favourite surf spots is just a short walk from our house, while others are an exciting tuk-tuk ride away, adding a sense of adventure to every session.
Cafes and Cocktails
Madiha has managed to maintain its remote tropical paradise vibe while welcoming a wave of great cafés and bars in recent seasons. From top-notch coffee and open mic nights to lively parties and live music, there’s plenty going on. You can easily find a spot for casual sunset beers with friends, whether you're after a relaxed afternoon or a fun night out. Despite the growing scene, Madiha still feels refreshingly uncrowded, offering the perfect balance compared to some of the busier towns along the coast.
Work
One of the things we love most about life here is the ideal mix of work and beach living. With dedicated work desks and reliable Wi-Fi, you can easily stay on top of your tasks. And when it’s time for a break, a quick dip in the ocean is just steps away!
Local Dishes
Every morning, our wonderful house manager, Gawri, treats us to a delicious Sri Lankan breakfast featuring traditional recipes. From fluffy egg hoppers to aromatic string hoppers, she serves them up with zesty sambols and flavorful sauces and chutneys that will tantalize your taste buds.
Gawri is also known for her exceptional Rice and Curry—a quintessential Sri Lankan dish that varies with the seasons and what’s available at the local markets.
Our Resident Four Legged Friend
Our dog Tess is just as crazy about the beach as we are! Whether you’re taking a stroll along the shore or diving into the ocean right out front, she’s always eager to join you on the adventure.
Exploring the South coast
While Madiha still feels a bit off the beaten path, nothing on the south coast is too far away. You can easily follow the main road that runs along the coast, along which you'll discover a number of different beach towns with their own vibe and plenty of spots to explore.
